Oral Sex STI Symptoms

Can I get tonsillitis from giving oral sex? I started having unprotected oral and P-in-V sex with a new guy. Less than a week since we first had both forms of sex, my throat is slightly sore, but my tonsils are very swollen, purulent, and have large white spots. It looks like a very bad case of tonsillitis, but without most of the symptoms. The only symptoms besides the slight sore throat, significant tonsil enlargement, and pus/white spots are fatigue. No congestion, no fever that I am aware of, no headache, no loss of voice. Do I need to get a tonsillitis test or STD tests?

It’s understandable to be concerned about your health, especially after engaging in new sexual activities. What you’re describing sounds like a possible case of tonsillitis, which can indeed be caused by certain sexually transmitted infections (STIs) transmitted through oral sex. While tonsillitis symptoms can vary, swollen tonsils with white spots and fatigue are common indicators. However, it’s essential to consider the possibility of STIs as well.

Oral Sex STI Symptoms

STIs such as gonorrhoea, chlamydia, and even herpes can manifest in the throat, leading to symptoms akin to tonsillitis. These infections might not always present typical symptoms like fever or congestion. Considering your recent sexual activities, it’s prudent to get tested for STIs, including throat swabs, to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, if your symptoms worsen or persist, seeking medical advice promptly is advisable to prevent any complications.

Remember, being proactive about your sexual health is crucial for your well-being and the well-being of your partners. Communicating openly with your healthcare provider and practising safe sex can significantly reduce the risk of STIs.

It’s important to consider the possibility of STIs causing your symptoms and get tested accordingly to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment.
